Parts of speech (brief summary)

  1. NOUNS: they refer to people, objects, etc
  2. PRONOUNS: they replace nouns
  3. VERBS: they show actions or states
  4. ADJECTIVES: they modify nouns.
  5. ADVERBS: they modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs.
  6. PREPOSITIONS: they relate a noun or pronoun to its object.
  7. CONJUNCTIONS: they join words, phrases, clauses.
  8. INTERJECTIONS: they show excitement or emotion.



PORTFOLIO:
  1. this list with PARTS OF SPEECH (complete list!!!). Paste it onto your Portfolio
  2. look up NEW examples (words with different meanings according to the part of speech they belong to) 
  3. you can use some of the examples shared in class

So ... sentences can be: 

  1. SIMPLE
  2. COMPOUND
  3. COMPLEX
